Layia exited the elevator that led to the Council Chambers. It had not been long since she was sitting here listening to the holocron of a long dead Jedi, and a Sith Lord as well. Shaking her head quickly she lost her gloomy thoughts in the wave of hair before her eyes. Letting out a controlled sigh she approached the protocol droid.
"We are here to meet with a Jedi returning from patrol, we do not require access as of yet and I thank you to leave us alone." Layia was short with the droid, evidence of a long lasting distaste for it. She didn't hate droids, just that particular one. Motioning for her padawan to sit with her she came to a relaxed position on the lounge chairs. "While we wait, tell me more of your training; what is it you wish to learn?"

Kian sat down with Master D'Hara. "My training with the Baran Do was incomplete, due to my not taking a master. Had I taken a master with the sages I would have not been permitted to leave. While there, I was given a basic understanding of force meditation, as the Baran Do are ultimately the best warning system for the sudden storms that wreak havoc on our cities through use of the force. Aside from this, I also received training in combat, though basic, nothing advanced. I wish to learn more about the force, as I found that part of my training with the sages wanting. I want to know how it can be used to help other, and more importantly, how it should be used. I wish to learn the way of the Jedi, for though my knowledge of them is limited, my respect for what they stand for is strong." Kian said after a moment of thought. He longed to be able to help others, to right wrongs, and to protect those who were unable to protect themselves. He had seen many people on Dorin who were unable to care for themselves, and had seen how they were preyed upon, and wished then he could stop it.

Kian sat for a few minutes longer and then a smile crept to his face, though his mask probably concealed it. "I would also like to learn more about lightsabers!" Kian said, rather excitedly. "My sparring with the young Wookie was the first time I'd ever handled a lightsaber in combat, and it felt different than a staff or a sword, but somehow it felt right. It felt natural. I would like to explore that more." Kian said after a moment of thought. Then he turned and looked at Master D'Hara and smiled once again.

--Layia D'Hara--
I smiled softly listening to my new padawan. He was eager, no doubt about that. I couldn't see his face very well past the mask but I could hear the smile in his voice. "Lightsabers is something I can most certainly help you with." I looked at him with warmth in my eyes as I spoke, recognizing a kindred yearning. "I worked long and hard to become the Battlemaster of this Temple. You say it felt natural, I say that is as it should be."
I turned my head quickly to glance towards the turbolift. Is it them? No, just the usual Knights doing their rounds. When would they get back from the lower city? I was not accustomed to sitting around and waiting but the chance to get out of the Temple and do some good was too much to pass up. Having not had any padawans before I wasn't sure I was the best to train Kian. In the deadly dance that is the saber forms I had no doubts I had much to teach, but the finer points of the Force were something that I myself was still exploring. Trial by fire some called it. Learning out of the temple, in the midst of the galaxy, would be the best way for him to learn. There he could learn quickly and apply it just as fast. He would master things faster than the other padawans and would be better off for it. At least, I hoped he would. Sometimes getting too good too fast had a way of blowing up in your face.

Kian followed his masters eyes and glanced at the turbolifts. He could tell from his masters disappointment that it wasn't who they were waiting on. Turning back toward his master, Kian spoke. "Is there something I should be working on while we wait?" Kian asked hoping he might be able to start his training as soon as possible.

((OOC: Well, my experiment with first person perspective is over. It only works on my Kaze character because he doesn't speak. Gives you a better perspective on him. Switching back to Third-person Omniscient.))
Layia listened to her padawan's question quietly, a smile coming to her face in response to his eagerness. "But of course." She spoke happily as she reaching out in the Force to grasp the nearest meditation chair. Pulling it towards them she gestured for Kian to take a seat upon it. "The easiest thing to work towards is your connection to the Force. You must focus, bind the channel and open it as a faucet. In this way you can temper your connection to be always at the ready, making it easier to call upon in times of desperation."
She considered her words for a moment before continuing. "Having to concentrate in order to utilize the Force can be a turning point between success and failure. It must be second nature to you, as easy as breathing." Letting out a long, slow breath Layia opened her connection to the Force. She allowed it to reach out with long tentacles of power, grasping and feeling out from her core. Slowly the objects that weren't strapped down began to levitate and float about the pair. "Take this time to meditate, to focus on that connection and learn it. Learn it and hone it until it meets you with open arms and the embrace of an old friend."

Kian walked over and sat opposite his master. He was nervous, as this was the first time he'd ever been given an assignment from his new master. Kian closed his eyes and reached out with the force. He felt his masters force present as if he were sitting before a furnace. Following the flow outward he felt the power she exuded over the objects floating around them. He sat like this, mesmerized, for quite some time then finally he opened his eyes.
Picking a small coin from his pocket, he sat it on the ground before him. He reached out, concentrating on the feeling of the coin in the force. It felt cold, and lifeless, yet still it was connected to the force. Concentrating on the coin he focused on making it float. It hovered an inch or two off the ground, rather shakily for a moment or two, then it rose further up and stopped at eye level. Kian felt relaxed, he felt calm, but he could feel the strain of deep concentration.

After some time of meditation and working on floating the coin in front of him, Kian turned toward his master.
"When do you think we will hear from the council?" Kian asked, and immediately regretted it. He didn't want to seem impatient to his new master.

Layia smiled softly at Kian's eagerness. "I am not accustomed to such a long wait as this. I was expecting the return of the others quicker than this." Adjusting in her seat impatiently she couldn't help but wonder what's taking so long. If things didn't progress further she would act of her own accord.
"If the Force is willing, they should be with us shortly."

Layia tapped her foot anxiously. She was patient, it was one of the tenants of the Order, but this was asking a bit much. Standing around pondering was for Council members, not for the Battle Master. With a slight growl she hopped to her feet, a sparkle in her eyes. "Kian, I'll give you a couple standard minutes to get your things together. We're leaving."
She smiled to herself as she summoned the lift, the prospect of what was to come at the forefront of her mind. They wouldn't sit around and wait, not anymore. There was clear sign that the Dark Side, in one form or another, was organizing and she would find out. Somehow, she felt that her new apprentice had no idea what he had got himself into but there was no doubt in her mind that he would enjoy himself.

(I'm sorry for the long delay, I have been checking in and just hadn't noticed you posted ) Kian rose, as did his excitement. "Master, everything I own is with me." Kian said smiling, the Baran Do were not big on material property. Kian spread his hands, indicating that the only thing he owned was the robes he wore, the comlink, and the training saber he had borrowed from the Jedi.

Layia turned to look at her apprentice with a wide smile on her face. "Very good. This won't exactly be a sanctioned mission, yet I doubt that will deter you from following me." With one last nod of approval she keyed in the entry way on the turbolift controls. It didn't take long for them to get to their destination. She would have made her way to the hangars, but she needed to find a trail to follow first. Her best bet would be in the lower city where the encounter had occurred.
((we will continue in the lower city thread for coruscant))
