The Halls of Healing were an expansive wing of the Coruscant Jedi Temple.
Located within the southwest quarter of the complex, the Halls were the center of healing and renewal of life for wounded members of the Jedi Order.
The Medical Corps maintained an infirmary within the Halls, composed of more than a hundred of the best bacta tanks in the galaxy.

Jedi Master Jaslin Chryss entered the Halls of Healing, helping Soyu Manda carry Rhys Sykes into an open room. They placed him gently on a bed, and Jaslin began running scans on the man, using the equipment found in the room.
"Thank you for helping me, Learner Manda."
Jaslin said to Soyu, as she completed her diagnostic of Rhys. He was in bad physical shape, but none of his injuries were fatal. She surmised that a dip in a bacta tank, combined with a few days rest, would mean Sykes would be up and about as if nothing had happened. If it were only that simple, she thought. Whatever he had been through, there was a good chance that he had suffered severe pschological injury, and that did not heal within a matter of days.
"Rhys, I need you to tell me what happened to you..."

Soyu gazed around himself as they entered the Halls of Healing. He had been lucky enough not to sustain any injuries beyond minor cuts and bruises so far in his training, and although he knew of the facilities offered by the medical wing he was still quite impressed. He supposed that given the amount of violence an average Jedi might see in their lifetime that it was sadly necessary. He helped Jaslin with Rhys, before asking
"Is there anything else, Master Chryss? If there is not, I'll return to my training."

Rhys Sykes was laid on a bed, and immediately tried to sit up, only to wince. He was in rough shape, but he had definately endured worse in the underworld of Kashyyyk in his youth. He laid back down as a pillow was pushed underneath his neck and head, allowing him to look around in his surroundings better.
He looked at the Jedi Master, who appeared kind. He wondered if he could trust her and for a moment was going to remain silent. However, they were helping him, so he figured he would take a chance and trust her and the learner standing next to her.
"I...I lost a bet. I'm in debt to this guy in Nar Shaddaa. He didn't like it that I took some equipment from his warehouse to further my research. I had some friends protecting me there, but it wasn't enough. He found the fighting ring I was in that night and brought his cronies in and slaughtered everyone in the place. One of his men..." He winced again as pain lanced up the left side of his rib cage where he had brutally been beaten. "This droid tried to strangle me, and then I remember something pricking my skin at the back of my neck and waking up on some unknown transport in a cage."
He furrowed his brow and rubbed his eyes as something dawned on him. "Wait... how do you know my name? And why did the droid take me here?" He searched Jaslin's eyes for answers, occasionally glancing over at Soyu.

Soyu's expression softened when he saw Rhys wince. He did not possess the training necessary to heal Rhys' wounds, but he did know a few techniques for dulling the sensation of pain. He moved to the bedside and drew back his sleeves, pausing with his hands just above Rhys' ribs.
"If I may? You might find it easier to talk if your body bothers you less."

Jaslin considered what Rhys had asked her. She did not answer immediately, wondering how to explain to the man everything she knew.
Thankfully Soyu had begun to help healing Rhys, and she spoke softly to Manda,
"Learner Manda, if you would please fetch me some nero painkillers from the ward sister, I think Rhys would really appreciate it."
She waited for Manda to leave the room to fetch the medication, then she spoke to Rhys,
"Rhys, do you not know why the bounty hunter brought you here? How much do you know of your family history?"
Although Jaslin assumed that Rhys knew who his father had been, that he knew from who he descended, one could never be sure. And this sort of thing could cause tremendous psychological trauma to someone who was not expecting it...

Rhys nodded to the Learner. Hopefully this kid knew what he was doing. Then again, everyone had to learn how to conduct something sooner or later. As a scientist-both capable in physics and biology himself, he knew that experience was generally the best teacher, since holobooks couldn't teach one everything.
He sighed a short sigh of relief as the pain lessened as Soyu's healing hands began their work. He couldn't help but be amazed at how something he couldn't see was able to provide slight relief that quickly without even administering modern medicine.
Once Soyu was asked to leave the room to retrieve medication, Rhys furrowed his brows anticipating the worst.
"I only assume that the droid thought I was someone I am not..." He answered carefully, hoping that was the answer the Jedi Master was looking for. "I wasn't told much by the Wookiee family I was brought up with. I tried getting one of my friends to hack into an archive or two, but he only came up with the fact that my dad was a depressed individual and unable to take care of me. Oh and that my last name is Sykes."
He paused, "I assume there are a lot of people out there by the name of Sykes right?" He had heard of a Jedi leader by the name of Sykes but the galaxy was a big place, what were the odds that he would be related to a Jedi? Especially since he was raised by Wookiees. What human would drop their offspring off in a tree fort to be raised?

Soyu looked round as Jaslin spoke and nodded.
"Of course, Master."
He took a few deep breaths and felt his conscious mind step aside, letting the Force flow more strongly through his outstretched hands and Rhys' body, shoring him up so that the pain would not return while he was gone. As he stood there, operating at some pilot-light level of thought, he thought he felt something odd and out of place touch his psyche at the edge of his consciousness. Recently his meditation had been disturbed and erratic, which he attributed to the current galactic climate, but this felt different somehow - not the ragged shocks of terrorist attacks or the subtle undertones of fear, but something slightly familiar and yet altogether quite alien to him. As gentle as this whisper of a hint of a feeling was, it was enough to bring him back to the present. He frowned slightly and opened his eyes, then smiled at Rhys and pulled down his sleeves.
"I'll be back as soon I can."
He bowed to Rhys and Jaslin as he left the room, resolving to ask the Master about what he had felt later.

Jaslin knew that what Rhys told her could be a real problem for the man. He had no clue who he was or who he descended from. He did not know who his parents were. That kind of information was not something you could just blurt out to someone who had received the kind of treatment Rhys had.
The shock to his physical system, combined with the shock it would take to his mental facilities, could severely damage the man.
"You are right Rhys, there are many people called Sykes in the galaxy."
But not many of them bare the features you do, carry the genes and family traits and blood that was so clearly flowing through this young man. Reaching for one of the blood samplers Jaslin ran a plate over an open cut on Rhys' arm, and collected some of his blood on it. She was already sure who this man was, but she would double check against the archives. While she was at it, she would check his blood for infections and also perhaps, checks his midichlorian count.
Jaslin was sure this was Skyler's son, but she would have to look at the archives as to who his mother was, and to why he had been sent to Kashyyyk.
"Rhys, it must have been terrible to not grow up with your own family. But sometimes parents cannot look after their own and have to give up their children to give them a better life. Tell me about your childhood on Kashyyyk..."
As she spoke, Jaslin inserted the plate into the medical scanner by the bedside, and entered a few commands into the system.

Rhys knew nothing about his background other than the fact that his last name was Sykes and that he was raised on Kashyyyk with a loving Wookiee family. Kashyyk, a former Jedi Knight of the Jedi order and friend of Skyler Sykes had promised him before he left the living realm that his "son" Rhys, who was actually a clone of Skyler, would be in good hands and be raised in a loving home free of any real galactic stress that a member of the Sykes family would actually face.
He had grown up to know Wa'jacca and his sister's son as a friend and attended university on the forrest planet, becoming a great asset to the Scientific community there where he recieved several awards in physics and biology.
Rhys's eyes darted to the plate running over his arm. That wasn't a bacta patch.. But from how they treated him thus far, he thought he had little to worry about. The Jedi were generally known to treat people kindly if they posed no threat to them. "No, actually, it wasn't." He shrugged. "Since I never knew them it wasn't like something was taken away from me. I hardly ever felt different. It was a bit like being adopted." He ran a hand through his short hair. "The Wookiees took care of me as if I was their own. I even participated in their ritual to climb down to the lower levels and capture a portion of a Syren planet and earned two Wookiee blades." He couldn't help but smile proudly at this fact, especially since he had managed to return topside still alive. He didn't think to mention to Jaslin that he was in much worse shape than he was in now by the time he did complete the task.
"You know, if you mix the bacta and that over there," he pointed at a pink vial on a lab table, "it makes a great pain killer." Rhys thought he would mention it to Jaslin in a hopeful tone. He was a whiz at biology and how to make new chemical compounds.

Jaslin considered what Rhys said. Perhaps he himself was not sure or aware of the pain that he felt at never knowing his true parents, or maybe the Wookiees had in fact filled that roll sufficiently to prevent any early developmental problems psychologically.
A person often said they were fine only to later discover they were not, Jaslin thought. But there was no sense pushing the issue, as that would not help either.
She wondered where Manda was with those painkillers as she picked up the pink vial.
"This is quite an addictive chemical Rhys. So I always hesitate to use it unnecessarily. I wonder why the droids just left this lying about, its expensive! In fact, its not found on most worlds."
Something clicked in Jaslin's brain. Rhys had recognised the vial for what it was, and correctly said that it could be used for a substitute pain killer.
"How did you know what this was?"
Jaslin crossed over to Rhys and looked into his eyes, wondering if this man had some strange ability, perhaps a latent Force triggered ability, or if he simply had training and previous biological experience.

Soyu had assumed that retrieving some painkillers from the ward sister would be a simple task, but even finding her had proven difficult. He had left the room to find a busy ward full of nurses, none of whom could spare any time for a young learner. In the end he had asked one of the medical droids at the desk, who without stopping it's work of looking up or entering test results, scans, referrals and reports had informed him that the ward sister was not currently on the ward but would return shortly. Fortunately she returned only moments later, and Soyu had intercepted her before she began some other task that would preclude her from speaking with him. He had then discovered that he did not know Rhys' surname or patient number, and the sister had given him a short stern talk on how medical facilities worked. He had innocently asked if only people with patient numbers needed medication, and, unable to determine if he was being flippant or dim, she had acquiesced, signing out some painkillers from the drugs cabinet. He headed back to the room, entering just as Jaslin crossed the room to Rhys.
"Master, the painkillers you requested."

Rhys couldn't help but let out a smile, flashing his white teeth. "I uh... Well, I had very good teachers on Kashyyyk. You can dampen the addictive additives of the chemical if you add it to sap of green Wroshyr bark." He pointed at a refrigerator which might have held the chemical he meant.
He sighed. He probably wasn't going to be let off so easily, since he didn't even know if the Jedi here could read his mind. "I have the qualitifications to be a doctor in Galactic medicine. So in essence, you and I might have things in common." His eyes twinkled slightly and he hadded quickly. "In being able to heal people I mean..."
He looked to Soyu. "Thankyou for earlier. Whatever you did, my ribs feel better already."

Jaslin saw a strange twinkle in Rhys eye. Things in common, Jaslin smiled inwardly. If she was right about Rhys then the two of them had even more in common than what the young man realised.
She took the painkillers from Soyu, and smiled at the boy.
"Thank you learner Manda. Would you be so kind as to begin applying bacta patches to our guest?"
She gestured to a place on the table where the patches were, while she began to fill a syringe with the painkiller vials Manda had brought. Using the Force to numb an area of skin on Rhys' arm, Jaslin injected the painkillers that would help the man recover.
They would knock him out for a bit as well, and had been known to cause slightly hallucinogenic dreams, but Jaslin knew the man needed sleep.
"Rhys, your going to go to sleep for a bit now, and when you wake up, the two of us will be right here taking care of you ok?"
Jaslin's smile and aura in the Force continued to radiate nothing but calm and peace, as she meant every word of what she said...

Rhys jerked slightly as he felt a strange numb sensation in his arm. He glanced over at Jaslin, assuming she had something to do with that. "Wow... the force of yours... that's pretty powerful stuff." There was no doubt why beings with such power of the universe turned bad due to the corruption they could inflict with such abilities. What made one with such power so good though? Probably good morals and a good upbringing, Rhys assumed.
"I wish you could teach me to do that." Rhys muttered minutes later, as the effects of the painkillers began to wash over him. His vision began to shake a little and get fuzzy as different colours danced around him over everything he saw. He smirked sleepily.
"No, I'm fine... Thankyou beaut-" He caught himself saying things he should not say infront of the pretty Jedi Master and corrected himself. "Thanks... Master Jedi. Don't let me get in the way of your work." With that, his head hit the pillow and his muscles relaxed and he dozed off to dreamland.
